Number of Monitors
Servers perform different functions, and we provide a range of Monitors
for the most common server functions. You will need a different
Monitor for each type of test you set up on each Server. (5, 10,
25, or more) For instance, two monitors would be required to set
up an HTTP Monitor and an FTP Monitor on the same server.
Monitor Frequency
Each Monitor's frequency may be set for once every 24 hours or once
every several minutes. The longer the frequency, the longer it can
take to detect a problem. For example, if your Monitor is set to
run once an hour on the hour, and your server goes down at 7:15pm,
you won't get a notification until the next check at 8pm.
Types of Monitors
Based on the business functions that your servers perform, you may
select the specific Monitor types that you will need. (examples:
HTTP, FTP, SMTP). Certain advanced Monitors such as HTTPS and DNS
are only available with the larger packages.
Often a single physical machine will have a number
of different software applications running on it that can be tested.
For example, many packaged server solutions these days come with
a web server (HTTP), file server (FTP), and mail server (SMTP, POP)
preconfigured and running.
