About Easymonitor

What is it?

EXPERTMONITOR watches other sites on the Internet and notifies the appropriate personnel in the case of a problem. Users pay on a monthly basis for use of the service and configure their account from a fully automated web site.

Acting just like a normal user, EXPERTMONITOR connects to the website every few minutes and tries to view a web page. If the webserver has crashed or is swamped with too many visitors, an email or pager message is sent to someone who can fix the problem.

Beyond notification of failures, EXPERTMONITOR also acts as an external record of the system uptime. Powerful reporting features show the most recent downtime, the exact error message, and hints for fixing the problem.

  1. What is a Monitor?
  2. What is a Notification?
What is a Monitor?
A Monitor is an Internet agent that sits on the EXPERTMONITOR server and keeps a diligent watch on your site. There are Monitors for web pages (HTTP), file servers (FTP), name servers (DNS), and many more. We will continue to add new Monitors over time in response to feedback from our customers.

While the basic parameters of a test depends on its type, most tests have some common elements. Some of these are:

  • Host: the Internet DNS name or IP address of the server you are monitoring
  • Performance Threshold: how long to wait for a Monitor to respond
  • Schedule: What times of the day should the Monitor actively run its test?
  • Time between checks: the interval between tests
  • Persistent: whether we should notify you only on the first error, or on every error

If you would like a Monitor that you don't see here, let us know!

What is a Notification?
A Notification is typically a message sent to your email or pager alerting you to a Monitor that has failed. A single Monitor might have a number of different Notifications associated with it, allowing different people to be notified at different times of the day.

If you would like to be notified by a method you don't see here, let us know!
